Spicy egg salad without mayonnaise

10 minutes

The name says it all: spicy egg salad without mayo. I don't know if I'm making myself popular with this, but I think egg salad should be nice and fresh and light and not muddy. That way it is not only a lot healthier, but also much tastier. I often find mayonnaise too overpowering myself, so I replace it with cottage cheese and lots of (fresh) herbs. And the tastiest addition? Sriracha!

Egg salad without mayonnaise

Egg salad without mayonnaise is gaining popularity, and rightly so. Traditional egg salad often contains mayonnaise, which provides a creamy texture, but it can overpower the delicate flavor of the eggs and make the dish heavy. Omitting the mayonnaise or replacing it with lighter alternatives such as Greek yogurt, hummus or avocado better preserves the pure flavor of the eggs. These ingredients also add a fresh, healthy dimension without weighing down the dish. Greek yogurt, for example, provides a creamy texture with a light, fresh taste, while avocado is rich in healthy fats and offers a buttery texture.

The origins of egg salad go way back and are a beloved classic in many cultures. Eggs have always been an affordable and nutritious food source, and with the advent of industrialized ingredients such as mayonnaise in the 19th and 20th centuries, several egg-based salads emerged. In many countries, egg salad is often a popular sandwich, snack or appetizer.

These days, adapting egg salad without mayonnaise is a healthier choice that doesn't sacrifice flavor. With less fat and more room for fresh herbs and vegetables, it remains a deliciously versatile dish for any occasion.
