Plate cake with figs and burrata

10 minutes + 20 minutes oven

I love figs AND burrata, so it's high time for a sheet cake with figs and burrata! These sweet fruits go well with the creamy burrata and crispy puff pastry. A vegetarian drink recipe for everyone, but also delicious as an appetizer, lunch or main course!

When are figs in season?

When are figs in season? October is the month when autumn is in full swing, which means we can enjoy a delicious fall treat: figs! These sweet and juicy fruits are at their best during this season.

Fig trees usually bear their fruit twice a year, and the October harvest is one of the most flavorful. The fruits are now ripe and full of flavor, with a deliciously sweet, honey-like taste and a soft, juicy texture.

What makes figs even more special is their versatility. You can eat them fresh, incorporate them into salads, or combine them with cheese for a fantastic appetizer or main course, for example, this plate cake with figs and burrata. Moreover, figs are rich in nutrients, including fiber, vitamins and minerals, making them a healthy choice.

Plate cake with figs and burrata

This sheet cake with figs and burrata is a tasty combination for several reasons. First of all, of course: cheese and fruit. I mean hello, that combination has proven itself before. For example, in this pasta salad or these skewers with halloumi and melon.

Figs and burrata make a perfect duo because of their complementary flavors and textures. The sweet, honey-like flavor of ripe figs contrasts beautifully with the creamy, mild flavor of burrata, a soft Italian cheese. The figs also add delicious texture with their soft, juicy flesh and crunchy seeds. The creamy burrata provides a silky smooth counterpart. Together, they create a balanced flavor experience that is both savory and sweet, which is perfect for appetizers, salads or even dessert. This combination of flavors and textures makes figs and burrata a beloved delicacy in the culinary world. Worth a try, in other words!

What you need:

1 roll of fresh puff pastry
1 bulb of burrata
7 figs
1 tsp Italian herbs
2 tbsp pine nuts
1 tbsp capers
2 tbsp. honey
2 tbsp creme fraiche
1 egg
handful of rocket
salt and pepper
olive oil
1 sheet cake

What to do:

1

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and line a baking sheet with baking paper.

2

Roll out the puff pastry on the baking sheet and cut a rectangle about 2 cm from the edge. Do not cut all the way through! Pierce holes in the rectangle.

3

Spread the rectangle (not the edge) with the crème fraiche. Cut the figs into slices and cover the whole rectangle with them. They may overlap slightly. Season with salt and pepper and drizzle some olive oil over them.

4

Beat the egg and spread the rim with it. Spread the Italian herbs over the edge along with some pepper. Slide the sheet cake into the oven for 20 minutes or until it turns golden brown.

5

Garnish the plate pie with the burrata, pine nuts, capers, arugula and honey. Top with some salt, pepper and extra olive oil, if desired.
