20 minutes

Looking for an appetizer, tapas snack or tasty vegetarian appetizer? This crostini with Parmesan cheese and pear is one that tastes great with almost anything. You only need a few ingredients. This snack is so delicious because salt and salty are combined here. The sweet pear and spicy cinnamon go well with the salty Parmesan cheese. Delicious on a crispy crostini for an extra bite.

Why sweet with salt?

Combining sweet and salty, such as parmesan cheese and pear, creates a rich flavor experience through contrast. Parmesan cheese has a savory, salty flavor that contrasts perfectly with the natural sweetness of ripe pear. This contrast enhances the flavors of both ingredients: the salty umami of the cheese emphasizes the juicy, sweet character of the pear, while the sweetness softens the salty sharpness of the cheese. The interplay of these opposing flavors creates a balanced, complex flavor experience that is appealing to the palate. This combination is popular in gastronomy due to the harmonious blend of textures and flavors.

What you need:

1 fresh ciabatta
olive oil
1 clove of garlic
1/3 block of Parmesan cheese
2-3 small pears
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp. honey
few sprigs of fresh thyme
pepper and sea salt
12 pieces

What to do:

1

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and line a baking sheet with baking paper.

2

Cut the ciabatta into diagonal slices and spread on the baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and slide into the oven for 5-10 minutes until crispy and golden brown. Note: this can go very quickly!

3

Cut the pears into very thin slices. You don't need to peel them. Heat some olive oil in a frying pan and let get hot. Fry the pears for a few minutes on each side with the cinnamon and a splash of water. Fry until the water is absorbed and the pears become a little syrupy.

4

Using the cheese slicer, cut nice, thin slices of the Parmesan cheese.

5

Rub the clove of garlic over the top of the crostini. Then top with the Parmesan cheese, pear and additional salt and pepper. Garnish with the thyme.
