Oatmeal with blueberries, peanut butter and banana

10 minutes

I eat this oatmeal with blueberries, banana and peanut butter every day of the week. By popular demand, today I am sharing the basic recipe for classic oatmeal. So I share it every morning in my stories and there are always an awful lot of questions that come up. That's why I promised to dedicate a blog post to it in which I write out the recipe for you. You can think of this as a sort of beginner's recipe for if you are still searching for the right amounts and flavors with your oatmeal breakfast. I always make my oatmeal with milk instead of water, because it adds just a bit more flavor and creaminess. Oatmeal itself is quite blend, so I always add cinnamon and plenty of yummy toppings including blueberries, banana and peanut butter, as well as flaxseed, hemp seeds and shake buns.

Why oatmeal for breakfast?

Why do I eat oatmeal for breakfast every day? I have a lot of reasons for that. The main reason, of course, is that I find it incredibly delicious. I myself am not a huge bread eater, because somehow I never get satiated from bread. Moreover, I prefer a warm breakfast and oatmeal is a real godsend.

Oatmeal is also a popular breakfast among many because it is rich in nutrients and also offers several health benefits. Here are some reasons why oatmeal is a good idea for breakfast:

  1. Oatmeal is rich in fiber: oatmeal contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps lower blood cholesterol levels and can help regulate blood sugar. Insoluble fiber helps regulate digestion and promotes healthy bowel function.
  2. Oatmeal is high in protein: oatmeal contains more protein than most cereals. Protein is important for building and repairing tissues in the body and can help you feel full longer. I'm really full after a bowl of oatmeal like this until lunch. So then you don't have to snack as much (may be allowed of course haha).
  3. Oatmeal is low in calories: oatmeal is relatively low in calories compared to other breakfast cereals. Win!
  4. Oatmeal is a source of complex carbohydrates: oatmeal contains complex carbohydrates that are broken down more slowly than simple carbohydrates, such as sugar. This keeps your blood sugar more stable and gives you energy for longer.
  5. Oatmeal is versatile: finally, oatmeal can be prepared and eaten in different ways, making it a versatile breakfast. For example, you can cook it with milk or water and then add fruit, nuts or seeds to increase its nutritional value. Think of it as a kind of base that you can decorate completely to your own taste!

All in all, oatmeal is a healthy and nutritious breakfast that will hopefully become your favorite breakfast after trying this recipe.

What you need:

1
50 gr (fine) oatmeal
250 ml unsweetened milk
1 tsp cinnamon
1 small banana
100 gr blueberries
fresh or frozen
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 tbsp. shaker biscuits
1 tsp linseed
1 tsp hemp seeds

What to do:

1

Place the oatmeal along with the almond milk in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.

2

Meanwhile, slice the banana.

3

When the porridge begins to thicken, add the cinnamon. Keep stirring and turn the heat down low.

4

When the porridge is almost ready, add the banana slices to the porridge. If you are using frozen berries, add those as well. Simmer until the berries are no longer frozen.

5

Stir well again and spoon into a small bowl. Add the fresh blueberries here if you're using, along with the flaxseed, hemp seeds, the shake bellies and the peanut butter.
