Why is banana bread popular?

Banana bread has become hugely popular in recent years, and that's due to a combination of taste, convenience and versatility. It is a sweet, cake-like bread that is especially popular because it offers a delicious way to use up overripe bananas that would otherwise be thrown away. This fits well within the current trend of reducing food waste. In addition, banana bread is easy to make and requires no complex techniques, making it appealing to home bakers of all skill levels.

The origins of banana bread are in the United States, where it became popular in the 1930s during the Great Depression. Back then, baking powders and baking soda were just becoming widely available, which helped develop recipes such as banana bread. In times of scarcity, it was essential not to waste food, and using overripe bananas fit this line of thinking perfectly.

The popularity of banana bread further increased due to the corona pandemic, when many people began baking at home as a hobby. Banana bread was a favorite in this regard due to the accessibility of the ingredients and the fact that it can be a healthier alternative to traditional cakes or sweets. As a result, it remains a popular choice worldwide.

Mix the almond flour with the oat flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and a pinch of salt.

Mash 2 bananas with a fork and mix with the eggs, yogurt, milk and vanilla flavoring. Then add to the dry ingredients and gently spat together.

Pit dates and cut into pieces. Spatula through the batter as well.

Pour the batter into the cake pan. Cut the third banana in half lengthwise and place inside out on top of the batter. Press gently. Bake the cake for 50 minutes in the oven. When the cake gets too dark on top, cover it with aluminum foil and continue baking. Then let the cake cool completely in the cake tin before cutting it.
