Gnocchi bolognese with burrata

20 minutes

This vegetarian gnocchi bolognese with burrata is a delicious dish that is both filling and flavorful. This dish combines soft and creamy gnocchi with a rich, savory bolognese sauce and a topping of creamy burrata. Best of all, it's easy to make. All you need to cut is the onion and other than that, all you need to do is add the ingredients together. Gnocchi and burrata are a match made in heaven if you ask me. I've made it before this creamy gnocchi with peppers and burrata and this gnocchi traybake with burrata along.

Where does the name Bolognese come from today?

The name "Bolognese" refers to the city of Bologna, located in northern Italy. Bologna is known for its culinary traditions and one of the most famous dishes that comes from this city is the "ragù alla bolognese," also known as Bolognese sauce. I have been there in January and it is cooked according to traditional recipe everywhere there. Really not normally delicious.

Bolognese sauce is a thick, rich meat sauce traditionally served with tagliatelle pasta. The recipe for Bolognese sauce dates back to the 18th century and contains ingredients including minced meat, tomatoes and onion. The dish became popular throughout Italy and later around the world, making it now a well-known dish often served with different types of pasta. I used vegetarian minced meat in this recipe, making this a vegetarian bolognese. You can also use "regular" minced meat if you like it better or prefer it.

Today, Bolognese sauce is one of the most popular pasta sauces in the world and is made in different variations depending on region or personal preference. The dish is often associated with Italian cuisine and is a popular choice on Italian menus around the world. I really recommend booking a weekend in Bologna and trying it there! To get in the mood in advance, this vegetarian gnocchi bolognese with burrata is a nice taster.

What you need:

2
250 gr gnocchi
200 gr (vega) minced meat
1 bulb of burrata
1 white onion
1 clove of garlic
400 ml sieved tomatoes
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp dried rosemary
1 tsp oregano
chili flakes to taste
fresh basil
salt and pepper
olive oil

What to do:

1

Chop the onion and squeeze the clove of garlic.

2

Heat some olive oil in a pan and fry the onion in it. Add the minced meat and fry until it is loose. Season with salt and pepper.

3

Now add the tomato paste, garlic, strained tomatoes, oregano, rosemary and another pinch of salt and pepper. Also add chili flakes to taste. Mix everything well and turn the heat down to low. Let simmer gently, stirring occasionally.

4

Bring a pan of salted water to a boil and cook the gnocchi in it according to the package directions. Catch a cup of the cooking liquid when draining.

5

Add the cooked gnocchi and some cooking liquid to the pan of sauce and mix everything well. Sauce too thick? Add additional cooking liquid until it feels, tastes and tastes right to you.

6

Spoon the gnocchi onto the border and garnish with the fresh basil and burrata. Garnish with additional chili flakes and black pepper, if desired.
