Sweet potatoes get their name from the fact that they naturally have a sweeter taste than regular potatoes (white potatoes). This natural sweetness is mainly due to their higher sugar content and the type of sugars they contain, such as glucose and fructose. This makes them taste sweeter than regular potatoes, which contain mainly starch and have a neutral taste.
The name "sweet potato" is used to distinguish it from the more common potatoes grown mainly in Europe. In some regions, sweet potatoes are also known as "sweet potato" or with local names referring to their sweet taste and orange or purple color of the flesh.
This sweet potato casserole with green beans actually consists of three basic ingredients, sweet potato, green beans and minced meat. I personally use vegetarian minced meat (this I like it best), but you can also use regular minced meat if you like it better. You season with sambal and various spices and then finish the dish in the baking dish. The oven does the rest of the work for you. Looking for more sweet potato recipe inspiration? Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and grease a baking dish.
Bring a pan of water to a boil. Clean and halve the green beans. Cook them for 9 minutes until tender.
Peel the sweet potatoes and cut into very thin slices.
Chop the onion. Heat some olive oil in a pan and fry the onion in it. Then add the minced meat and season with salt and pepper. Then add the green beans along with the strained tomatoes, sambal, cumin powder and curry powder. Mix and turn off the heat.
Spread the green bean mixture over the bottom of the baking dish. Spread the sweet potato slices on top and drizzle with olive oil. Spread the cheese over the top along with some thyme. Also add some salt and pepper and slide into the oven for 20 minutes.
