The best coffee spots in Nijmegen

I may not have been born and raised in Nijmegen, but after 10 years I can call myself a local. And believe me, Nijmegen is the perfect place for a nice city trip. Whether you like history, nature or good food: this city has it all. What I especially like about Nijmegen is that it offers a perfect mix of city bustle and relaxed, green spots. Moreover, the city is not too big, so everything is wonderfully within walking distance.

Nijmegen is known as the oldest city in the Netherlands and this is reflected in its beautiful historic buildings, such as the Stevenskerk and Valkhofpark, where you can also admire ruins from Roman times. Are you a fan of museums? Then Museum Het Valkhof and the muZIEum (where you experience what it is like to be blind) are definitely recommended. In addition, Nijmegen is surrounded by beautiful nature. For example, take a walk along the river Waal or cycle through the hilly forests in the area.

But perhaps the best thing about Nijmegen is its vibrant hospitality industry. The city is bursting with cozy cafes, fancy coffee shops and delicious restaurants. In the Lange Hezelstraat - one of the oldest shopping streets in the Netherlands - you can not only enjoy shopping, but also delicious coffee or an extensive lunch. For a good dinner you really need to go to the lively Bottendaal district or Nijmegen-Oost, where you will find cozy restaurants and fine wine bars. And on sunny days the terraces at Steven and Nibbles are the perfect places to soak up the atmosphere of the city.

You can always go to Nijmegen for a good cup of coffee. Whether it rains or the sun shines, the city is full of cozy coffee shops where you can relax. And I have tried every single one of these places at least once! One of my favorites is Fresca: a nice place in the center with great coffee and pastries. I sat here several times a week.

Also in the mood for coffee? You will find all my favorites listed below.

1 Kushiin
You can visit Kushiin for coffee to go, but also settle down inside. The cake and lunch (focaccia!) menu is also a big plus AND they have fantastic matcha.

2 Holt
Lovely terrace with good coffee. Guaranteed sunshine in the afternoon (if it shines, it's still the Netherlands).

3 Puck
At Puck's they know exactly what they are talking about when it comes to coffee and you can taste that. Delicious brews in a nice living room setting.

4 Credible
I lived around the corner here for many years and I can tell you that I used to drink iced coffee on the sun-drenched terrace here about twice a week. Happiness in a glass!

5 The Viking
On an A-location in the Lange Hezelstraat you will find lunch bar De Viking. By far the best lunch menu in Nijmegen and they also have good coffee. Win-win!

6 The Laundry
If you really want an Instagrammable cup of coffee, drink it here. It is served in beautiful mugs and you always get one of those delicious cookies that remind me of the old days. Lovely terrace and the lunch menu is also very worth it!

7 Fresca
Already mentioned above as my ultimate favorite. Best place in town and you have great seating both inside and out. They often have seasonal coffees too, like pumpkin spice in the winter or mango matcha in the summer.

8 Atelier
I think the interior of Atelier is insane! Living room vibes at its best and you can totally unwind there with a nice cup of coffee.

9 The Sustainable Café
It may be familiar to some, but you'll find the Sustainable Café in the Sustainable Department Store (you wouldn't expect it). Lots of different kinds of milk and also delicious cakes for on the side.

10 Down Town
The most famous place in Nijmegen and I can understand why. Everything is delicious here: coffee, cake or lunch. Give me everything.
