Ibiza may be known for its busy beaches and vibrant nightlife, but did you know that there are still secret, quiet spots to be found? One of those hidden gems is the cave of Sa Figuera Borda, a serene spot where you can escape the island's hustle and bustle. Hidden away on the west coast of the island, this secluded gem offers breathtaking views of the azure Mediterranean Sea. I discovered this special place thanks to Rosa, the yoga teacher and facilitator during the food photography retreat on Ibiza. She took us to this magical cave and it was love at first sight.
Natural harbor
The cave of Sa Figuera Borda is not just another tourist attraction; it is a place with history. Originally, the cave was used by local fishermen to protect their boats from the elements. The natural arch of the rocks creates a perfect harbor, where even today you can see traditional fishermen's huts. The cave itself has an open connection to the sea, allowing you to jump right from the rocks into the crystal clear water for a refreshing swim.
The location of Sa Figuera Borda is spectacular: close to Cala Comte, one of the most beautiful beaches in Ibiza. But because the cave is somewhat remote, most tourists do not know of its existence. Therefore, it is a quiet and peaceful place, perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of the island.
The Rave Cave
The latter used to be a little different. What many people don't know is that the cave of Sa Figuera Borda was once home to a special underground party venue: The Rave Cave. Years ago, illegal rave parties took place in this remote cave, where lovers of electronic music gathered to dance under the stars away from the tourist clubs. The combination of the rugged rocks, the sound of the waves and the pumping music created a unique and almost mystical atmosphere.
Although The Rave Cave is now inactive, the memory of it lingers with those who experienced these special parties. The venue itself still exudes a sense of freedom and adventure. When you visit the cave, you can almost imagine what it must have been like: the echo of the music, dancing in the moonlight, and pristine nature as a backdrop.
Magical sunset
The most beautiful thing about this cave is the sunset. As the sky fills with shades of pink and gold, the cave transforms into a fairytale setting. It is an experience you really don't want to miss when you are on Ibiza.
